The €1-a-day licence loan
The "€1-a-day licence" is an interest-free loan for young people aged 15 to 25. It allows you to borrow between €600 and €1,200, repayable in monthly instalments of €30. This scheme is offered by banks partnering with the State. Ask your bank or your partner driving school which banks are part of the scheme.
The Personal Training Account (CPF)
Since 2020, theory test (ETG) preparation has been eligible for CPF funding for employed workers. This can allow you to fund all or part of your theory lessons, depending on your CPF balance. However, practical driving hours are not fundable via CPF. Log in to moncompteformation.gouv.fr to check your balance.
Local authority grants
Regional and departmental grants
Many regions and departments offer financial assistance for the driving licence for young people under 26 or job seekers. These grants vary considerably from one territory to another: some cover up to 50% of the total cost. Check your regional council's website or contact your local Mission Locale.
Municipal and inter-municipal grants
Some towns and communities of municipalities offer funding vouchers or interest-free loans for the driving licence. These grants are often little known and underused. Contact the CCAS (Centre Communal d'Action Sociale) at your town hall to find out what is available.
France Travail and CAF grants
If you are a job seeker, France Travail (formerly Pôle Emploi) can fund your driving licence as part of a professional project. A grant of up to €1,200 is available if the licence is needed to access a job or training. Speak to your France Travail advisor to put together the application.
Employer grants
Some employers cover all or part of the driving licence cost, particularly in sectors where mobility is essential. Ask your HR department or check your collective agreement. Company agreements may include this type of benefit.

Frequently asked
Your questions on this topic
What financial aid is available for the driving licence in 2025?
In 2025 you stack the CPF (up to 1,500 euros), the 1 euro per day licence for 15-25 year-olds (up to 1,200 euros loan at zero rate), the 1,200 euros France Travail aid for jobseekers, the 500 euros aid for apprentices and regional aid (200 to 500 euros). Tip: combine 2 or 3 schemes to cover 70 to 100 percent of the cost.
How to claim the France Travail aid for the licence?
The France Travail aid amounts to 1,200 euros for jobseekers registered for at least 6 months, where the licence is a proven barrier to employment. Apply through your advisor with a job offer or validated professional plan. Payment is made directly to a partner driving school. Tip: prepare the file 2 months before enrolment to avoid delays.
Is the 1 euro per day licence really free?
No, it is a zero-rate loan guaranteed by the State, not a grant. You borrow 600, 800, 1,000 or 1,200 euros and repay 30 euros monthly (1 euro per day) over 20 to 40 months. Reserved for ages 15-25, conditional on enrolling at a partner driving school. Tip: combine with the CPF to reduce the borrowed amount.
What specific aid for apprentices and work-study students?
Apprentices over 18 on an apprenticeship contract benefit from a 500 euros flat-rate aid paid directly by their sector's OPCO. Apply via the CERFA form through the CFA, file processed within 4 to 8 weeks. Combinable with the CPF and the 1 euro per day licence. Tip: start the application as soon as the apprenticeship contract is signed.
