In Paris, the B licence costs on average €1,650 in 2026 for a 20-hour package, 15-20% more than elsewhere in France according to the National Road Safety Agency and the DevisPermis.fr comparator. For a student, this is a significant investment. Fortunately, many schemes reduce out-of-pocket costs. This guide lists 2026 grants available in Paris and Île-de-France.

The Île-de-France regional « Permis pour l'emploi » grant

The Île-de-France Region funds the B licence up to €1,300 for 18-25 year olds seeking employment, in apprenticeship contracts, or CROUS scholars (levels 5 to 7). File on iledefrance.fr. Conditions: residing in Île-de-France for at least 6 months, enrolled in an approved driving school, completing training within 18 months. Around 15,000 young people benefit each year according to the Region's 2025 report.

Payment schedule

The grant is paid directly to the driving school in three tranches: 30% at signing, 40% after passing the theory exam, 30% after the practical test. In case of dropout, the student must refund the paid portion, except legitimate reason (illness, move out of region, schooling change).

The €1/day licence

State scheme open to 15-25 year olds, the €1/day licence grants a 0% bank loan with interest covered by the State. Amounts: €600, €800, €1,000 or €1,200 depending on needs. Repayment: €30/month. The file is built at a partner driving school and validated with an approved bank (Banque Populaire, Crédit Agricole, Crédit Mutuel, CIC, LCL, Société Générale in particular).

The CPF (Personal Training Account)

Student workers (internships, work-study, student jobs) accrue CPF rights of €500/year (€800 for unqualified), usable to fund their B, B96 or BE licence. Condition: the licence must be necessary for a professional project (apprenticeship, mobility-required job). Registration on moncompteformation.gouv.fr, Qualiopi-certified driving school required.

Monetising your CPF in 2026

Since the law of 29 December 2022, a €100 out-of-pocket contribution (indexed to inflation, around €102.23 in 2026) is owed by students using their CPF, except exemptions (job seekers, AAH recipients, employer top-up). The current CPF cap is €5,000 on a standard account.

CROUS aid and municipal grants

The CROUS does not fund the licence directly, but may grant a specific annual aid (ASAA) or emergency aid (ASAP) of €500 to €2,000 to cover exceptional training costs, including the licence if justified by a project. Some Paris district town halls (5th, 13th, 15th, 18th, 20th) offer their own student grants for the licence, between €300 and €600. Enquire at your CCAS (communal social-action centre).

Solidarity and nonprofit driving schools

Paris has around a dozen solidarity driving schools with reduced rates (30-50% cheaper) for vulnerable audiences: Emmaüs Permis, AICTS Permis Solidaire, Auto-École Sociale Paris. Candidates must justify financial hardship (CROUS level 5+, job seeker, RSA recipient). The 20h package costs on average €850 to €1,100 in 2026.

Wait times

Demand is high: Paris solidarity schools have 2 to 6-month waiting lists. Submit your file in September to start in January. A complete file (ID, proof of residence, CROUS certificate, bank details) at first appointment speeds processing.

The apprenticeship licence aid

Apprentices or alternance contract students can claim the « Permis B for apprenticeship » aid of €500 paid by the State, combinable with regional grants. Condition: apprenticeship contract over one year, aged 18-30, licence training less than 24 months. File submitted at the CFA which forwards to the Services and Payments Agency (ASP).

Combining aid: typical student financing

A scholar in apprenticeship can combine: Île-de-France regional grant €1,300 + apprenticeship aid €500 + CPF €600 = €2,400 in aid, nearly the full cost of a Paris licence. Combination is legal if each grant targets the same project (licence) and specific conditions are respected. Note: some aids (regional grant) cap total combination at 100% of the actual cost justified by invoice.

Pre-enrolment steps

1) Request a detailed quote from at least 3 driving schools (via DevisPermis.fr). 2) Build aid files in parallel. 3) Sign the school contract mentioning expected aids. 4) Start training once aids validated to avoid any cash advance.
