Two official free services

Mes Points Permis via FranceConnect

Launched in 2020, the mespoints.permisdeconduire.gouv.fr portal has become the 2026 reference. It works with FranceConnect (impots.gouv, Ameli, La Poste). Account created in 2 minutes, 10-year offence history.

Télépoints (access with confidential code)

Older portal still active in 2026. Requires your licence number and a confidential code requested at the prefecture. Heavier to set up but useful if you do not have FranceConnect yet.

Steps to check your balance

Via FranceConnect

1. Go to mespoints.permisdeconduire.gouv.fr. 2. Click "Log in with FranceConnect". 3. Choose a service (e.g. impots.gouv). 4. Validate: your balance shows instantly.

Via Télépoints

1. Request your Télépoints code at the prefecture (sent by mail within 15 days). 2. Log in at telepoints.info with your licence number and code. 3. Balance displayed.

Warning: delay between offence and deduction

Points are deducted only after fine payment or final conviction. Count 30-60 days between the offence and the online update. During that period, your displayed balance is still the old one.

What if the balance is wrong?

Check offence details

Click "History" to see each offence. If a line is unknown (different driver, duplicate, wrong date), you can contest via the ANTS portal within 45 days.

Contact the national licence service

If doubt persists, write to the SNPC (Service national des permis de conduire) via the site’s contact form. Official reply within 3-6 weeks.

How many points do you recover over time?

After a contravention without repeat, you automatically recover your points after 2 years (for 1 point), 3 years (for 2-5 points) or 10 years (for 6 points). Recovery courses speed up the process.

A reminder: avoid the probationary trap

In the first 3 years, you start at 6 points and gain 2 per offence-free year. A 30-40 km/h speeding (3 points) can already threaten your licence. Check after every flash, and take a course as soon as 4 points are lost.

Frequently asked

Your questions on this topic

How to check your points balance for free?

3 free methods: 1) Mes Points Permis service on mespoints.interieur.gouv.fr via FranceConnect (instant), 2) France Identite app (smartphone), 3) full information statement (RII) request by mail to prefecture (within 1 month). Any paid site offering this service is a scam: consultation is official and free since 2020.

How many points at the start of the licence?

12 points for a classic licence, 6 points for a probationary licence (3 years for standard track, 2 years in AAC). Probationary gains 2 points per year without offence (3 in AAC), reaching 12 points after 3 years. A clean licence for 3 years automatically recovers full capital. Any offence stops the annual increase.

How to recover points on your licence?

3 modes: 1) automatic after 6 months for a 1-point offence with no new loss, 2) automatic after 2 years for class 1 to 3 offences (4 points max), 3) automatic after 10 years for offences, 4) voluntary via 2-day course (170 to 280 EUR) recovering 4 points, limited to 1 per year minimum 1 year after the previous one. Maximum: 12-point capital.

How much does a points recovery course cost?

170 to 280 EUR depending on region in 2026 (national average 220 EUR). Duration: 2 consecutive days of 7 hours (14 hours total). Run by: a psychologist and a BAFM (Instructor Training Aptitude Certificate). Effective recovery: 4 points, within the 12-point capital limit. Voluntary or mandatory course (following an offence in the 3 probationary years with >= 3 points lost).
