ANTS, France's single portal in 2026

Since digitisation was completed in 2020, all French driving-licence procedures go through ANTS (ants.gouv.fr): first registration, renewal, duplicate, change of address, foreign licence conversion. No more prefecture counters for these.

Create your account in 5 minutes

Pick an identity provider you already use (impots.gouv, Ameli, La Poste Digital ID). Near-instant account creation. No extra password to remember.

Option 2: Dedicated ANTS account

Standard registration with email and password. Email confirmation within 15 minutes. Slower but useful without FranceConnect.

Which procedures?

NEPH request (first licence registration)

Free. Documents: e-photo ID, proof of address under 6 months, ID document, JDC attestation (civic day) for those under 25. 2026 delay: 24 h to 7 days.

Duplicate (loss or theft)

€25 via digital stamp. Documents: loss or theft statement (police), proof of address, e-photo. 2026 delay: 2–4 weeks for the new licence.

Renewal (biometric licence)

Free if end of validity. Documents: proof of address, e-photo, old licence attached. Delay: 2–6 weeks.

Change of address

Not mandatory for the licence (unlike the vehicle document), but useful to keep your details up to date. Free on ANTS.

E-photo: how to get it?

In an "ANTS"-approved photo booth (Photomaton, Photo-me): €7–10. Keep the 16-character code printed on the sheet. Enter it in your ANTS request — faster and more reliable than sending a paper photo.

Track your file

In your personal area, "My requests" tab. Successive statuses: "Received", "Under review", "Accepted", then "Licence in manufacturing" and "Licence sent". You receive an email at each step.

If you are stuck

Online assistance service

ANTS offers a contact form, chatbot and phone line (34 00, local call cost). Average reply: 2–5 working days.

Digital points in prefectures

If you are not comfortable with digital tools, most prefectures have a "Digital Point" with a mediator who helps you for free.

Avoid rejections

Check ALL documents before sending (readability, validity date, format). A rejection can cost 2–4 weeks. Always use the e-photo over paper. Consult the official guide before starting in complex cases (foreign licence, amputation, non-resident driver).
