Frequently asked questions
Does the PPL(H) allow me to fly a fixed-wing aircraft?
No. The PPL(H) is restricted to helicopters. To fly a fixed-wing aircraft, a separate airplane PPL is needed. Some theory credits may be recognised depending on the case.
How many flight hours must I keep the helicopter PPL current?
To maintain PPL(H) privileges, you must fly at least 12 hours per year including 6 as pilot in command. A competency check (BFR) is required every 2 years with an FI(H) instructor.
Can I carry fare-paying passengers with a PPL(H)?
No. The PPL(H) is a non-commercial private license. To operate as a professional pilot and receive payment, the CPL(H) (Commercial Pilot Licence for Helicopters) is required.
