Frequently asked questions
Can my child take the BSR before age 14?
No. The minimum age for BSR/AM training is 14, having passed the ASSR 1 in Year 9.
Is the BSR valid for life?
Yes, the BSR has no expiry date. It remains valid as long as the license is not withdrawn.
Can my child ride an electric scooter with the BSR?
Yes, the BSR/AM authorises riding electric mopeds under 50cc equivalent (or under 4 kW). Popular electric scooters such as those from Cityscoot or Cooltra fall into this category.
What equipment is needed to ride a 50cc?
An approved helmet is mandatory and gloves are strongly recommended. There is no legal obligation to wear a jacket or body armour, but they are strongly advised for rider safety.
